Guide for Authors

Iranian Journal of Seed Science and Technology reviews to publish articles prepared in the field of seed science and technology, including physiology, ecology, technology, biochemistry, biotechnology, plant seed health and fields related to these sciences. These articles should be written in Persian language and has not been sent for publication and has not been published in any journal before. The authors should regard the following points when preparing the article to submit:

  • Article processing charges:

Based on the approval of the journal's editorial board and the approval of the Seed Science Society of Iran (the licensee of the journal) in July 2021, the Iranian Journal of Seed Science and Technology does not receive any fees from the author(s) for the submission and initial review of the articles. However the author(s) of the articles that are accepted after going through the peer review process must pay the amount of 2,500,000 IRR as the charges for processing.

  • Writing method:
  • The article should be typed in A4 size, with 1.5 lines spacing and three centimeters margins on four sides.
  • Scientific (English) names should be written in italics in parentheses.
  • For in-text citations, the names of the author(s)  are written in English in parentheses with the year of publication (for details, see the Citations section of this guide).
  • Avoid writing footnotes as much as possible.
  • It is not necessary to put a space before the dot (.) and comma (,), but after them, a space is required and must be observed.
  • The article should be set in a maximum of 15 pages.
  • Select Persian font type: BZar 12 and English font type: Times New Roman 10.
  • The full text article:

A .doc file version of article without author(s) name should be prepared in the following order:

1- Persian title
2- Persian abstract
3- Persian keywords
4- Introduction
5- Materials and methods
6- Results and discussion
7- Conclusion
8- Acknowledgement
9- References
10- English Title
11- English Abstract
12- English keywords

  • Covering Letter:

The covering letters is a separate .doc file includes title of the article, the name, surname and position of the author(s), author(s) affiliation, the name and details of the corresponding author such as email address and phone number.

  • Necessary Forms:

The author(s) should sign the commitment form.

The corresponding author  should singn the conflict of interest form.

  • Plagiarism check certificate:

Considering the necessity of observing scientific ethics and trustworthiness in research activities and maintaining the rights related to the scientific productions of researchers, the corresponding author should upload their manuscript in the Hamanandjoo plagiarism checker platform before submitting and if passed the check(only less than 20% similarity is allowed), upload the certificate of the plagiarism checking with the manuscript and other files.

  • Title

The title should be concise and descriptive of the content of the article
and should not exceed 25 words. English translation of the title
(in small letters) should also be written under the Persian title.

  • Abstract

The abstract should be a concise summary of the article with an emphasis on the purpose, research materials and methods, and results.
A written paragraph should not exceed two hundred words.

  • Introduction

In this section, after sufficient reference to previously implemented sources and researches (domestic and foreign) in the discussed field, the purpose or objectives of the experiment should be clearly stated.

  • Materials and methods

In this section, materials, experimental design and  the methods used should be fully explained. But at the same time, there is no need to give a full description of the adopted methods and it is enough to mention the principles and sources.

  • Results and discussion

The results of the research are presented in the form of text, tables, figures and diagrams in this section. The contents of the tables should not be repeated in the article in any way. Each table consists of number, title, headers and table text. Each table is distinguished by a horizontal line of table number and title. Also, the head of the table is separated from the text of the table with a horizontal line and below the text of the table is drawn as a horizontal line.

If necessary, you can use horizontal lines inside the table header box to divide the table header. The title of the table is inserted above the table box and after the word table and its number, a dash and then the title is mentioned. Horizontal and vertical lines should not be used in the text of the table as much as possible. Each column of the table must have a title and unit corresponding to that column. If all the figures in the table text have a common unit, the unit can be mentioned in the main title of the table. Additional explanations of the title and text of the table are presented in the form of subtitles, and their relationship with the table is specified in the form of numbers or English letters above and to the right of the sentences and numbers. The results of statistical analyzes should be reflected in the table using one of the scientific methods, if the statistical calculations have led to a significant difference at the 5% and 1% levels, they should be shown with one and two stars, respectively, and if there is a significant difference It should not be marked with "ns" symbol. In order for the tables related to the results to be usable for non-Persian speaking readers, the title and number of the table, the text of the table, the headers and all the signs and explanations at the foot of the table must be translated into English and written under the Persian description. The dates mentioned in the text of the table should be converted from Hijri date to Gregorian date and presented in the table. Naturally, the numbers in the text of the table should also be written in English and all the contents of the table should be arranged from left to right.

About drawing diagrams: it is preferable to use the symbols ○□∆●■▲ in solid and hollow form.

All figures, diagrams and images are named with the word "figure" and the title of the figure is inserted below it. To insert the title of each figure, after the word figure and its number, a dash and then the title are mentioned. The photos must be prepared in black and white. The axis numbers of the graphs must also be written in English and the English translation of the description of the figure should be inserted under its Farsi description.

It is reminded again that all the tables and figures must be bilingual and the text numbers and axes must be written in English.

In this part, the results are scientifically analyzed and discussions and conclusions are made according to the purpose of the research and the research work done by others.

  • Acknowledgement

In this section, which is limited to a maximum of four lines, it is necessary to acknowledge the natural and legal persons who assisted in guiding or conducting research or had an effective role in providing funds, facilities and work supplies.

  • References:

A reference is usually given after an important article. The way to write references in the text will be as follows
that first, after finishing the manuscript of the publication, the list of sources used should be arranged in alphabetical order, and then the desired source to which the article is referred should be placed in parentheses at the end of the sentence (for internal and external sources) to be References that have two authors, the names of both authors, and references that have more than two authors, the first person's name is used first, followed by "et al.," (in italics) and the date. Example (about Persian sources):

Similar results have been reported by other researchers (Ahmadvand and Koocheki, 1998).

Example (about English sources):

Similar results have been reported by other researchers (Brown et al., 1997).

In cases where the sentence starts with the author's name, it is done in this way that first the author's name is written in Farsi, then the same name and the year of publication are written in English in parentheses. Example (about Persian sources):

Ahmadvand and Koocheki (1998) reported that...

Example (about English sources):

Brown and colleagues (Brown et al., 1997) reported that .........

Finally, the list of used sources is set continuously and all of them are in English (for Persian and English sources). References used are listed alphabetically by author's last name (or first author for sources with more than one author). If several sources are referred from one author, the order of their insertion
According to the year of publication, it will be from old to new. If there are several contemporary sources from the same author, they will be distinguished from each other by placing the letters a, b and c in front of the year of publication. If individual and joint articles are submitted by the same author, first the individual articles and then the joint articles are sorted alphabetically by the names of the next authors. About the article, the author's last name, first initial of the author's first name, date of publication of the article, title of the article, abbreviated or full title of the publication, volume number, and the first and last page of the article will appear in order. In the case of the book, the author's last name, then the first letter of the first name, the date of publication, the full title of the book, the volume number, the name of the publisher, the place of publication, and the total number of pages of the book will appear. In the case of articles or books that have more than one author, the last name and first letter of the first author's name, then the first name of the second and ... the author and then their last name are mentioned.

In the case of an article that is extracted from a collection, after mentioning the name of the author(s) and the year of publication of the book, the title of the article is written, and after placing a dot and the letter "S" or "PP", the number of the beginning pages and At the end of that part, a dot is placed between the two. Then, by writing the word "under supervision" and leaving a colon, the name of the book's editor(s), the book's title, the volume number, the publisher's name, and the place of publication will appear. In similar foreign sources instead of "under supervision": only "in" is written and "Eds." The abbreviation "Editors" is given.

In the case of a reference whose author is not known, the word "Anonymous" will be mentioned instead of the author's name, and the word "Anonymous" will be mentioned in the external reference.

The reference or references that are translations, in the list of references should first be the name of the author(s) of the original book, the title of its Persian specification (in English) and then
Mention the name of the translator(s).
