General considerations
Research articles related to the scope of the Iranian Journal of Seed Science and Technology that meet the criteria outlined in the terms and conditions for article submission will be reviewed by the editorial board for publication.
The article cover page should be provided in a separate file in both Persian and English. This file must include the article title, authors’ first and last names, academic rank (instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, professor, etc.), institutional affiliation, and full address (from specific to general). Additionally, the corresponding author should provide his/her email and mobile phone number.
The accepted format for listing the institutional affiliation of the author(s) in both Persian and English is as follows:
- Academic rank, Department, Faculty, University/Institution, City, Country
Since articles published in the Iranian Journal of Seed Science and Technology are indexed in reputable international databases, there is a strong emphasis on the accuracy of English writing in terms of style and grammar. Therefore, it is recommended to exercise great care when preparing the extended abstract and writing other English text within the article, including tables and graphs etc. To address this issue, submission of an editorial certificate is mandatory at the time of article acceptance.
Each of the article text and the cover page are prepared in a separate Microsoft Word file, using B Zar 12 font for Persian texts and Times New Roman 10 font for English texts. It is advisable to avoid using non-Persian words and terms in the article text; if necessary, they should be placed in parentheses. Latin scientific names should be written in italics, adhering to scientific rules and principles in naming plant and animal species.
Structure of the Article
Each article should include the following sections:
Title: The title should be concise, relevant to the article's content, and no more than 25 words.
Names of Authors: please note the following points:
- When submitting an article, do not include the name(s) or surname(s) of the author(s), or any other details of them (such as email addresses) in the original file(article text). Author names will only be included in the article text upon publication.
- Along with the article submission, please provide a cover page( a separate file containing the name(s), surname(s), institutional affiliation(s), and email address(es) of the author(s).
- In the cover page, list names without any nicknames or titles (e.g., Mr., Mrs., Dr., Engineer, etc.).
- Ensure that the number and order of authors in the cover page file match those listed in the journal website.
Standard Persian abstract: It should be between 150 and 250 words, structured as a single paragraph that includes the research objectives, methods, findings, and conclusions.
Keywords: Provide 4 to 7 keywords relevant to the article's topic, ensuring that none of the words are included in the title. The number of English keywords should match that of the Persian keywords.
English Extended Abstract: An extended abstract is a compact summary of an academic article that offers a more detailed perspective of the research compared to a standard abstract. It typically includes the following components:
- Introduction: A brief overview of the research problem and its significance.
- Materials and methods: A description of the research methodology, detailing all experimental or analytical techniques employed.
- Results and discussion: A summary of key research findings, interpretation of results, and their implications.
- Conclusion: A concise conclusion highlighting the main achievements of the research.
Extended abstracts enable readers to gain a clear understanding of the research conducted without needing to read the full article.
The extended English abstract submitted to the Iranian Journal of Seed Science and Technology should be between 700 and 1200 words, with allowances for up to three figures or tables.
Text of the Article: When preparing the article, the content is organized under the following sub-sections:
Introduction: This section includes the statement of the problem, theoretical foundations, background of the research, and the objective(s), question(s), or hypothesis(es) of the research.
Method: In this section, the materials, experimental design, and methods used should be clearly stated. However, a full description of the adopted methods is not necessary; it is sufficient to mention the principles and sources.
Findings: Here, the research results are presented in the form of text, tables, figures, and diagrams. When preparing tables and charts, it is essential to consider the following points:
Tables:
The contents of the tables should not be repeated elsewhere in the article.
Each table consists of a number, title, headers, and text.
A horizontal line separates each table from its number and title. Additionally, column headers are separated from the table text by a horizontal line in the subtext.
Horizontal lines are also included within the table itself.
If necessary, horizontal lines can be used within the table frame to further divide the content.
The table title is placed above the table box, following the word "Table," its number, a dash, and then the title.
As much as possible, horizontal and vertical lines should be avoided in the table text.
Each column of the table must have a title and a unit corresponding to that column. If all numerals in the table share a common unit, it may be mentioned in the main title.
Additional explanations for the title and content of the table are provided as subtext, with their relationship to the table indicated by numbers or letters in the upright of sentences or numerals .
Results from statistical analyses should be shown in the table using an appropriate scientific method.
If the statistical calculations indicate a significant difference, significance at the 5% and 1% levels is denoted with * and **, respectively, while non-significant differences are marked with "ns."
To ensure that tables related to the research results are understandable to non-Persian speaking readers, the English translation of the title, table number, table text, headers, and all notes and explanations at the foot of the table should be presented below the Persian equivalent.
Table columns should be aligned from left to right.
The dates mentioned in the text of the table must first be converted from the Hijri date to the Gregorian date and then be written in the table.
The numerals in the table text should be written in English, with the decimal point represented as a dot."
Charts:
It is preferable to use the symbols ○, □, ∆, ●, ■, and ▲ in both solid and hollow forms when drawing charts.
All figures, charts,, and pictures should be labeled with the word "Figure." The title of each figure should be placed below it.
To insert the title of each figure, write the word "Figure," followed by its number, a dash, and then the title.
Pictures may be in color or black and white.
The English translation of the figure's title or description should be written below its Persian equivalent.
The words and numbers within the figures should also be presented in a bilingual format (Persian above, English below).
The axis labels of the graphs should be written in English.
It is reiterated that all tables and figures must be bilingual, and their text labels and axis numbers must be in English.
Acknowledgement: In this section, the efforts of all individuals who contributed to the research but are not listed as authors—including writing the paper, developing methods, and providing general support—are acknowledged. It is also important to mention the names of the institution or institutions that sponsor or finance this research.
Discussion (Conclusion): In this part, the results obtained are analysed scientifically, followed by a discussion and conclusions aligned with the research's purpose and findings from prior studies. This section includes explanations of findings, descriptions of practical and theoretical implications, acknowledgments of limitations, and suggestions for future research.
Conflict of Interest: Authors should explicitly state any potential conflicts of interest, such as receiving payment for the article or holding stock and shares in an institution that could be affected by the publication of the article. If there are no conflicts of interest, please add the following sentence at the end of the article, just before the references section:
